| Care | Beetroots will not tolerate acid soil. Give you soil a bit of a feed with organic fertiliser, and remove any big stones before planting, de-weed, and plant your beetroots. From there on you only need to make sure they are well watered in hot, dry weather (otherwise the roots will become woody) and the beetroots will do the rest! Harvest the roots as soon as they are the right size. If you want to store them you can harvest them in Autumnn. You can leave them in the ground over winter, however this is not advisable, as they often become tough and slug eaten! To removed the tops (leaves) you should twist them rather than cutting them. Beetroots should either be cooked and pickled or stored in a cool, dark, humid place, such as a moist box of sand. |
| Uses | -Round rooted varieties can be grown in containers as part of a patio kitchen -easy to grow -would look great at the front of a mixed bed/border |
