| Care | If you love acers but want a variety that is likely to grow too big, you could try planting it in a pot, as this will restrict the root growth, and therefore in theory prevent it from getting too big. Some varieties are also frost tender so growing them in a pot means you could move them to a sheltered spot in the frosts. They prefer a well cultivated, slightly acidic soil. You do not need to prune them. |
| Uses | -Fantastic specimen plants (which are ideal for underplanting with bulbs) -Tubs for the patio -as part of a mixed bed or border |
| Description | These deciduous trees and shrubs produce spectacular leaves! Their vibrantly coloured display lasts from Spring to Autumn. Their delicate leaves (especially of palmatum varieties) look fantastic in contrast to bolder leaf types such as Hostas, Phomiums, or even compact bushy shrubs. |
