CareDahlias prefer a deep, rich fertile soil, so make sure you add plenty of well rotted manure to your soil before planting. Cut them back when foliage has been blackened by the frost, leaving about 15cm/6inches of stem attached to each tuber. If your area is mild, you can leave the tubers in the ground, covered with a winter mulch, if not they will need to be dug up in mid-autumn and stored in a dry place over winter. For the first 3 weeks of storage you should position them upside down, so that all the water will drain out of them. Water well during dry periods. This is quite a short variety so shouldn't need staking, but if the wind is affecting it, they should be supported with three canes, where growth is tied in regularly.
Uses-They look splendid in a bed/border, giving a very dramatic display
-Ideal for a cottage garden/informal planting scheme
-Lovely as cut flowers
DescriptionThis plant has compact dark leaved (almost black) foliage. The single, vibrantly coloured peach, yellow, red or pink flowers, make a wonderful, powerful contrast against the foliage. Will keep flowering from May until the first frost.
