CareBorder Penstemopns like fertile, well drained soil. Dwarf and shrubby species need gritty, sharply drianed, poor to moderate soil. Protect plants with a dry mulch in frost prone areas. Deadhead (unless seed is needed)

DescriptionPenstemons are mostly evergreen perennials. They provide a flamboyant display of flowers from mid-summer until the first frosts. There are tall and dwarf varieties, suitable for different purposes within the garden. Flowers are tubercular, and arranged in spires.
