Aspect
They need full sun and a sheltered location, such as a south facing wall or fence.
Care
Cannas need fertile soil. Water well throughout the summer and feed with a high potash fertilizer monthly, to encourage flowers. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. If you are in a frosty are, you should lift the plants in autumn, and prune them back. Their rhizomes (a bit like roots) should be stored in peat free compost in frost free conditions. They should be re-planted in early summer, when there is no-longer a threat of frost.
Uses
-Suitable for cottage garden/informal planting schemes
-Ideal for beds/borders
-Tropical gardens
-City gardens
Description
These are breath taking plants. Their exotic leaves are mainly green or purple-brown, but some varieties have bright orange veins. Their flowers are wonderfully ostentatious, drawing attention to any bed/border. Not hardy.
