Aspect
Prefers partial shade. Doesn't mind an exposed or open site, and is suitable for north, east, south and west facing gardens.
Care
Plant in a moderately fertile, humus rich soil. Soil should be moist but well drained or well drained. Enrich your soil with well rotted organic matter. Will tolerate most soil types and pHs. Divide congested clumps in spring or autumn, every 3-4 years, as this will keep the plants healthy.

Description
Their poised, elegant stems bear brightly coloured flowers which would work brilliantly in any hot coloured bed/border. The strong sword-like foliage makes a statement in any planting scheme. The flowers are long lasting, from mid-late summer (but some varieties will last into early autumn.) You can use them as cut flowers. Some are fully hardy, whilst others are frost hardy (tolerating temperatures down to -5 degrees Celsius.
