Name Hemerocallis (Daylily)
Price £ 6.50 / each
ColoursPurple
SizeHeight: 40-80cm/16-32inches
Spread: 45-60cm/18-24inches
AspectMost types need full sun for the best flower colour, but will tolerate partial shade. Red varieties are better in dappled shade, otherwise it can get scorched.
CareThey prefer fertile, moist but well drained soil. They are pretty adaptable and can grow nearly anywhere. You must deadhead spent flowers on a daily basis, otherwise they look messy! Destroy abnormally swollen flower buds immediately, as they are likely to be infected with hemerocallis gall midges. To keep these plants healthy you should divide them every 2-3 years. Evergreens should only be divided in spring.
Uses-Ideal for beds/borders
-Smaller varieties such as Hemerocallis 'Stella D'Or' can be grown in containers, and look great contrasted with Heuchera 'Palace Purple'
-Suits Cottage gardens/informal planting schemes
-Low maintenance
-Exotic gardens
DescriptionThese are ridiculously easy to grow, needing no maintenance! They produce exotic looking flowers, which only last for a day (hence the common name), but are quickly replaced by another bloom. They look stunning planted in drifts in a border, and flower from srping-late summer. Fully hardy to frost hardy (tolerates temperatures as low as -5 degrees Celsius.
