Name Raspberries
Price £ 7.50 / each
Colourspink-red
SizeHeight: 1.5m/5ft
Spacing: 30-37cm/12-15inches
AspectRaspberries need at least half a day of sunshine, everyday. A breezy garden is tolerated, as long as they are tied into canes for support.
CareThey prefer fertile, free draining, acidic soil as they do not thrive in alkaline soils. As soon as possible after fruiting, cut all fruited (old) canes of summer varieties down to ground level. Spread compost over the top to decompose the stumps that are left. If necessary, thin new canes, leaving 10 per meter, tie them in to the top wire for support. In winter you can unte them, and prune back to a bud just above the top support wire. Also in late winter, cut all canes of autumn-fruiting crops to the ground, and cover stumps with compost.
Uses-can be grown in mixed borders
DescriptionEven a small garden can make room for 2 or 3 raspberry bushes. All three plants can be grouped around a 1.5m/5ft cane. There are summer and autumn fruiting varieties. They are delicious, and will give you something sweet when all the strawberries have been devoured.
