Care
They need acid soil (pH 4), so if your soil is not naturally acidic, grow them in containers with ericaceous compost. Add plenty of organic matter to your soil. Water well using rainwater (which is slightly acidic). Mulch with acidic peat, wood chippings or needles to suppress weeds and maintain the moiture content in the soil. Add fertilizer once in the spring and again in late summer. Cover with a bird net to protect the fruits. When ripe, pick and leave for 2-3 days to allow the natural sugars to sweeten the fruit.
Description
Blueberries are easy to grow, and are a wonder food for our bodies: Apparently they can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of cancer! You should plant two or more varieties to ensure cross pollination, and better yeilds. They can normally be harvested throughout July.
