Space bushes: 1.5m/5ft
Space cordons: 45cm/18inches
Space fans: 2m/6ft
Aspect
They prefer sun, but will also grow in cool conditions, where they have little direct sunlight.
Care
The soil should not be too fetile as this will encourage vigorous but weak growth that is likely to snap in the wind. They are not fussy about the soil. To conserve moisture and suppress weeds, mulch with straw /hay in late spring. Remove any suckers at the base of the plant. Be careful when pruning, as the fruit grows on branches that are at least 2 years old.
Uses
-They are great for making jelly, wine, and for mixing into jams to help them set.
-decorate a fence or wall, when trained into a shape
-can be grown as a bush in beds/borders/vegetable plots
-red berries are vibrant and eyecatching
Description
When Redcurrants re in fruit, they can look spectacular, much more so than whitecurrants, however some connoisseurs prefer the marginally sweeter flavour of whitecurrants. They are grown in exactly the same way, so it is simply a matter of personal preference. Both are fully hardy, tough and easy to grow.
