Meeting a plant's water and food requirements plays a big part in making it happy and performing well for you.
The Three basic plant food elements
Nitrogen (N)
-Which encourages healthy leaf growth.
Phosphorus (P)
-Which is important in the growth of roots.
Potassium (K)
-Vital to flowering and fruiting and hardens growth - increasing resistance to pests, disease, and frost.
Trace Elements
-are added to mosty fertisers to give the plant a boost of anything it may be lacking in.
Feeding Methods and Forms
Liquid Feeds
-are mixed into water and supply the plant with readily available nutrients.
Controlled Release Feeds
-Such as Osmacote, release food according to temperature, the warmer the weather (the more plants are growing)the more it releases. Last for a pre-set time.
Slow Release Feeds
-Most organic foods come into this category, releasing nutrients gradually as they are broken down in the soil.
Plant Tonics and Stimulants
-Such as seaweed extract which contain little in the way of major plant foods, but do contain a wide range of trace elements, plant hormones and specific carbohydrates that can stimulate plant growth and strengthen the plant against pests, diseases and stress.
We supply a good selection of plant foods many professionally formulated. Ask for advice on the best fertilizer for your plants needs if you have any doubts.
